DUI Q&A Series - Should I Fire My Lawyer?

|

Summary

Being charged with a criminal offense and going through the court process can be a very frightening experience, and it can be even more stressful if you don't feel like you can communicate with or trust the lawyer that represents you. If you're not comfortable with your current attorney-client relationship, you can ask another attorney for their opinion on your case. Be aware that certain information in your case is only available to your attorney, and a consulting attorney might not have all of that information available to them. No attorney can promise you that they will be able to do any better or differently than your existing attorney at any time.

Being charged with a criminal offense and going through the court process can be frightening and stressful. It can be even more frightening and stressful if you're not sure you can communicate with or that you trust the attorney you've chosen to represent you.

If you're not comfortable with your current attorney-client relationship, you can ask another attorney for their opinion on your case. They can discuss the facts with you and what's going on in court. Be aware that certain information in your case is only available to your attorney, and a consulting attorney might not have all of that information available to them. No attorney can promise you that they will be able to do any better or differently than your existing attorney at any time.

The key is to find an attorney that you feel will communicate with you openly and honestly, someone you trust to give you the positives and negatives of your case. If you needed brain surgery, you would put your life in the hands of a neurosurgeon that you trusted. The same applies here. In both cases, you need to put your life in hands that you know you can trust.
