On Monday, September 1, a woman called 911 to report that her car had been stolen by two men after she left it running outside a SODO auto parts store in Lynnwood. When police found and attempted to pull over the vehicle in West Lynnwood at 21 st Ave. SW and SW Henderson St., the two suspects jumped out and fled the scene on foot. Police officers were unable to apprehend the suspects.
During the chase, an officer responding to the call for backup made a U-turn at SW Barton St. and 35 Ave. SW. As he completed the turn, the patrol car was T-boned by another vehicle on the passenger side, according to Lynnwood Police.
Medics from the Lynnwood Fire Department responded to the scene and evaluated the officer, the other driver, and her passenger, an 11-year-old girl. Lynnwood Fire transported the girl via ambulance to Harborview Medical Center after she complained of a headache and nausea. The police officer was unharmed in the crash.
Officers called a Drug Recognition Expert to the scene to evaluate the driver, and she was later arrested for driving under the influence.
