For about 12 hours following a car accident on Wednesday, October 1st, a portion of 196th Street SW in Lynnwood was closed to all traffic. The closure occurred after an SUV collided with an electrical pole, toppling the pole and knocking down power lines.
Traffic was prohibited between 68th Avenue W. and 74th Avenue W. until 9:45 a.m. on Thursday morning while the hazardous situation was remedied. The driver who collided with the power pole is suspected of having been under the influence at the time of the incident.
Law enforcement officials reported that there were no injuries as a result of the crash. The driver, a woman believed to be in her 40s, was arrested and is under investigation for driving under the influence.
Even a first DUI carries harsh penalties in the state of Washington. If this was the driver's first offense, she could receive a sentence of a minimum of 24 hours in jail, hundreds of dollars in fines, and have her license suspended for up to 90 days.
