As a Lynnwood DUI Attorney, I am shocked at the massive backlash against my clients in recent weeks. Again - yes - everything that's happened is a true tragedy. But that being said - the new bills that are being proposed go too far.
When Dori Monson says that the bills go much further than he had even hoped - you know they're extreme.
So what could happen?
Mandatory interlock at the time of impound. And how do we accomplish this? (see earlier posts)
Felony DUIs on the 4th, not 5th offense. Reasonable, but I don't like it.
But the biggest ones are some of the changes to 2nd and 3rd offenses.
They're talking about TRIPLING and QUINTUPLING the penalties. From 30 days in jail to 180 days mandatory on a 2nd. From 120 to 364 on a 3rd. This completely makes judicial discretion useless. And it's far and away the worst in the country.
And then they want to take away your right to choose. They want to criminalize refusing to give a breath test.
It's a scary time to have a DUI charge in Washington - and if you're scared by your charges - give Lynnwood DUI Attorney Jonathan Dichter a call at 425-424-9401 right now.
