As a Seattle DUI Attorney, I meet with a wide variety of potential new clients in my practice. Lately, however, I've noticed an increasing number of those clients doing what I refer to as "price shopping". They'll call multiple attorneys, make multiple appointments, and then choose the least expensive.
Now - let me preface this by saying:
I encourage EVERY client to meet with multiple attorneys to find the person you're most comfortable with handling your case.
And please don't think that I'm "complaining" somehow about my bottom line. I'm not.
I'm cautioning you, the reader, that price is the wrong criteria to be choosing on.
So then - how should you be making your decision?
Is your attorney a member of the National College for DUI Defense?
Is your attorney Forensic Sobriety Assessment certified?
Is your attorney's practice comprised of more than 60-70% DUI practice?
Are they active in trainings and coursework to stay at the top of their game?
What do their former clients say about them?
The trick is this - find the person who's going to do the best job for you. Then figure out how to pay them what they're worth.
A DUI arrest is too serious a matter to guess or bet on. You need the best right away. You have no margin for error. You owe it to yourself. And if you're going to pay thousands of dollars, you should be getting quality for your money.
Just my $0.02.
